Senior Animator

About the role:
As a Senior Animator, you will be part of a close-knit team working on an unannounced project in its early stages of development. You will be reporting to our Lead Artist but further down the line, this position will likely evolve into a Lead Animator position as the team grows and we bring in more animators to the team, creating a small animation team.
You will be involved not only in producing high-quality animations for our game but also have ownership of the animation pipeline as a whole and be responsible for how we work with animation in the project. You will also be mentoring more junior colleagues.
We are aiming towards lifelike animations with a lot of expressions and emotions. While not set in stone, we are exploring the use of mocap for the project, and it's most likely going to be used extensively in combination with traditional keyframe animation.
Responsibilities Include
- Character and object set-up, including rigging, skinning, creating animations, and importing to Unreal
- Ownership of the animation area, including
- Planning & time management
- Communication across disciplines
- Defining and documenting workflows
Requirements:
We’re looking for a self-motivated animator who can handle both the artistic elements of animation and the technical requirements that facilitate it.
We want someone who is driven and not afraid to take initiative. Someone who enjoys working as part of a team and who listens to others and, most importantly, we are looking for someone who is a nice person.
In order to succeed, we expect that you have a good understanding of body mechanics and animation principles in general.
You have worked on several other game projects in the past, with at least one of them being from start to finish.
We are also looking for someone with:
- Extensive rigging and skinning knowledge
- Experience working in Blender & Unreal.
- Proficient understanding of character mechanics and animation pipelines/workflows
- Fluency in both written and spoken English
- Love for games and bringing models to life
- Experience with mocap or at the least familiarity with it and a desire to dive deeper and learn more about the technique.

Thunderful Development is a studio that is part of Thunderful games and was formed by several indie companies coming together to make something more significant than they could have done independently.
Today, we're roughly 140 people in team sizes of 15-35 people making amazing games in four locations; Gothenburg, Skövde, Malmö & Karlshamn. The teams within have developed the award-winning SteamWorld series, known for its frequent genre-hopping and inclusive design, and more recent AA games like The Gunk, Lost in Random, and other unannounced but equally charming titles.
